The Rugby World Cup is finally here and Tonga Rugby have arrived in the UK ready and waiting to tackle the biggest nations in world rugby. Their preparation has been sound with solid performances in the Pacific Nations Cup and friendly fixtures against Nottingham RUFC and Romania. The squad is now settled and busy preparing for their first match v Georgia on the 19 September, with one eye firmly on their last group match v the All Blacks on October 9th. During the 2011 World Cup Tonga were undoubtedly ever neutral fans second team, having recorded impressive victories against Japan and eventual Cup finalists France, whom they beat 19-14 in the biggest shock in Rugby World Cup history. Explosive wing Fetu’u Vainikolo is a key player to watch and is noted for his pace. He has just signed for French Oyonnax from Exeter Chiefs, where he scored five tries in 10 appearances last season. Other stand out players include talismanic Captain Nili Latu (Newcastle Falcons) and the man0mountain Soane Tonga’auiha (Oyonnax). Kukri are proud and honoured to be the ‘Official Kit Supplier’ to the Tongan national team and we wish their players, management and supporters a warm welcome to the UK.
